Your support, as always, will be critical in helping us to continue to deliver the support that makes a genuine difference to the young sports-people of west Auckland.

 

“The Don Oliver” as we call the Foundation, was created to continue and build on the work of the late, great Olympian, who spent a great deal of his time assisting youth.  Initially “The Don Oliver” gave scholarships to young west Aucklanders of exceptional sporting ability and character.  Recently we have added other forms of assistance and, we are exploring ways to do even more for a wider group of youth.

 

We are just the conduit that takes your support and directs it to supporting the youth who will succeed and helping to provide the activities that will assist them to achieve success.  In the 17 years since the DOYSF was founded, there has not been a single New Zealand Olympic or Commonwealth Games team that has not included at least one past or present Don Oliver Scholar.  The outstanding current example is New Zealand’s top swimmer, Lauren Boyle, who received several scholarships.  There are many others, numerous games medallists, a sailing world champion, a women’s rugby sevens world champion, footballers, New Zealand’s first female Olympic boxer, and more.

 

What we offer

 

First and most importantly we offer the opportunity to make a contribution to the young people of West Auckland, and through them, to the wellbeing of West Auckland as a whole.  It takes a village to raise a child and every one of our young people who succeeds is a success for all of us.  That alone makes it worth doing.

 

Furthermore, these young people will pay us back many times over in the future.  Not just with their sporting prowess and success, but also when their example inspire others to follow in their footsteps, when they return and invest their sporting knowledge into helping others, and finally, when they bring their character and commitment and invest into business or some other form of community contribution.

• 10 complimentary tickets to the Awards Event on Wednesday 20 September. 

• A scholarship named after your organisation and presented by you where possible and agreeable

• Your logo on the invitations to all of our workshops throughout the year

• Evaluation report including press clippings, compiled and provided (within one month of the event), and

• Progress reports of the scholarship recipients

 

Media

 

• Press releases sent to all media including sponsors and scholarship recipients

• Your logo will be included in a minimum of 3 articles about DOYSF in the Out West magazine (produced monthly by The Trusts), and

• Local media are invited to the Awards Event to ensure maximum coverage
