Athlete Report: BENEDICT CHONG WONG - SHOT PUT & DISCUS Dec 2013

Benedict only had 1 competition since getting this scholarship which was on 12 October at the Millennium institute. There he competed in discus and shot put and won both disciplines in the Under 18 Men’s category. He feels that he threw better than expected for a safe throw of 47 metres with 1.5kg discus. Benedict’s foul throws ranged between 50 and 58 meters and would have put him number one in NZ if they had counted. What a major improvement in 1 week moving from a lifetime best of 47.47 metres to foul with a 58 metre throw. So there is the distance the next step is control. Benedict shot the put a respectable 17.79 metres which was one metre off his best but was also after he had competed in the discus. Benedict is looking forward to working on improving his control and technique so that his best results will be counted!!
