Athlete Report: TYLA NATHAN WONG - TOUCH RUGBY & SEVENS RUGBY Dec 2013

At the age of 19 Tyla Nathan-Wong is a triple New Zealand representative: as a member of the New Zealand Women’s Touch Blacks, Women’s Sevens and Women’s Tag Football teams. Tyla is a World Champion after the team won the Sevens World Cup in Moscow in June 2013 and the inaugural IRB Women’s Sevens World Series 2012/2013 held over 4 tournaments in Dubai, Houston, Guangzhou (China) and Amsterdam. Tyla’s NZ Women’s Tag Football team finished third at the ITFF Tag Football World Cup in December 2012. Tyla also competed for the NZ Women’s Touch Blacks at the Super Trans Tasman Touch Series held at The Trusts Arena against Australia in February 2013. At provincial level, Tyla represented the Auckland Women’s Sevens and Counties Manukau Women’s Touch teams which both finished third at their respective national tournaments. In August 2013 the NZ Women’s Sevens team defended their Oceania Sevens Championship 2012 title but finished third behind Fiji and overall winners, Australia. In preparing for the 2013 Northern Regional Sevens Tournament at Rotorua in December with the Auckland Women’s Sevens team, Tyla has sustained a Lisfranc Injury to her right foot. This may require surgery and potentially she could be out of action for up 3 months or more.
