Athlete Report - Adel van der Walt May 2014
In the last 3 months I only participated in one competition whcih was the Oceanias. As a few countries had issues with their visa applications there was quite a shortage of competition and it turned out there was only one other girl in my division.
Our matchup was a straight final which I, unfortunately, came up second. I was lucky enough to be able to compete in the womens Team event in which we achieved silver.
I wasn't too disappointed in the event as I had only managed 3 days of training in the final weeks leading up to competition due to a concussion suffered in training 3 weeks prior.
In the next three months I have 2 competitions in New Zealand and potentially one other, The South African Open.
The 2 NZ competitions I have lined up are the Waikato Bay of Plenty open taking place in Tauranga and the Auckland International. The Auckland International is a massive competition which usually hosts countries such as Tahiti, Samoa and Australia amongst others.
Being the first year we would be able to compete in the South African Open we are seriously considering it as an option. It is a very costly affair and we have to weigh up the points on offer against the money involved.
