    Mettam wins 2014 Hamilton winter series

    Aucklander Jaden Hassan and Hamilton's Nick Cole dueled it out in the senior division of the final round of the Hamilton Motorcycle Club's winter series at Hampton Downs on Sunday.

    But it was another Aucklander, Daniel Mettam, who clinched the Arai Winter Series victory with three fourth placings on his Suzuki GSXR600.

    In perfect weather conditions several national and international riders tested their superbikes ahead of the summer season, including father and daughter Phil (Australia) and Sophie Lovett (Auckland) on their similar Kawasakis.

    But it was Suzuki that ruled on the day in the superbike senior class with Hassan taking his GSXR1000R to victory in all three heats to clinch second behind Mettam in the series.

    He and Kawasaki ZX-10R racer Cole swapped paint on most laps with the winner of each heat never really decided until they crossed the finish line, Cole taking second place each time.

    Phil Lovett made his trans-Tasman trip worthwhile by taking three thirds, although Mettam continually pushed the Australian in every race. read more.....
