New Zealand Scholistic Championships 2014 - Britt Kindred
October 8, 2014
"Hi Michael and the Don Oliver Youth Sport Foundation.
Last week I competed down in Taranaki for the Auckland Team placing 4th in the New Zealand Scholastics. which is a competition when teams of 12 from all around New Zealand compete in a Points competition.
I ended up 2nd in the under 16 girls after making it through 3 rounds of surfing at Fitzroy and Back Beach in New Plymouth. In the First two rounds the waves were good but when it came to the Semi's and Final's day the storm had set in and the conditions became very challenging. I won all my heats leading up to the final and had the highest heat score going into the final.
I was winning for most of the final until the last 3 minutes when another competitor managed to get the better wave of the heat. Although I did not place first which I was hoping for I was lucky enough to Receive the Adam Clegg award for the Girl Breakthrough Performer.
This was such a huge honour due to Adam being such a amazing friend of mine who past away just over a year ago due to staphylococcus aureus at the age of 16 he also was a competitive surfer. I was the first girl to ever receive this national award which made it even more special to me due to it was voted on by every other competitor in the event.
Next week I a heading to a weekend training clinic with my coach and one of New Zealand's top coaches Matt Scorringe.
Thank you so much for your support Britt Kindred"
