Britt Kindred - National Backdoor GromBash

Last Weekend I had the National Backdoor GromBash held in Raglan at Manu Bay. On Saturday the surf was 2ft strong winds horrible weather and my events were postponed leaving a gruelling schedule for Sunday.

I surfed my first heat on Sunday and the conditions were much better 3ft light winds with the surf picking up throughout the day. I won my first heat which was under 20s moving me through to the semis and in my under 17 I won my heat also moving me through to the semis.

In my under 17 girls semi the surf picked up a lot and I was lucky enough to receive a perfect 10 (the highest score your can get on a wave) which defiantly made me feel very energised even though I had 3 heats back to back. In my under 20s I had another great heat getting a wave with a score of 9.5 helping me progress in both the under 20s and 17 girls final.

By finals the surf had picked up to 5ft sets and the wind had disappeared. My knowledge of the break helped me in all my heats, I knew how to deal with the big surf.

In my under 17 girls final I placed 2nd just not getting the back up score that I needed.

In my under 20 girls final I was able to get the back up score I needed and placed 1st against the top U20s competitor Ella Williams getting my first career national win.

Overall it was a great weekend with amazing surf and I was very happy with my result and being able to surf 6 heats in a day with only 3 other girls out.
