2022 Scholarship Recipients
Charlotte Brown is, at 18, already in the top three in New Zealand for Triathlon, Duathlon, Aquathon and Ocean Swimming.
The outstanding result in the 22/23 summer season was winning the under 19 Girls’ division of the Australian Sprint Triathlon Championships in Melbourne.
Earlier at Tauranga, she had finished second among the under-19 girls in the Marra Triathlon and, after Melbourne, she was 3rd in the female open age group at the Kinloch Triathlon.
Qualification for the Junior Worlds beckoned if she did well at the Oceania Championships in Taupo but a bike crash put her out of the race and out of automatic qualification. Nevertheless, she has been selected as the NZ Team reserve. She was also selected for the New Zealand triathlon development team.
Being about to exit the under-9 age group, she decided to step up to race Oceania under 23 / elite triathlon champs, placing 17th in the under 23 females and 30th in the elite woman. This was followed by a training block and the New Zealand road running mile Championships, placing 4th in the under 19 year old girls and 7th in the elite woman.
Charlotte’s goal for the coming season is race her first triathlon world cup elite race in Hong Kong at the end of the year and get onto the world circuit.
As if that isn’t enough, she qualified for the 100, 200, 400 and 800 metres freestyle at Auckland short course swimming champs and will pass the winter swimming and running cross country.
