Kosei McGrath Takeji is New Zealand’s #1 ranked Under-21 tenpin bowler, representing Manukau Superstrike and coached by Ernie Jensen. Competing under Tenpin Bowling New Zealand, Kosei has quickly established himself as one of the country’s most promising young bowlers, regularly competing in both national and international events.

Since becoming a New Zealand representative in the U18 and U21 divisions in 2022, Kosei has competed internationally in Australia, Thailand, Malaysia and Korea, gaining experience against many of the world’s top youth bowlers. A standout moment in his early career was winning the 2022 Walter Rachuig Trophy Teams Event in Tasmania, where his team defeated a side featuring professional bowlers from the United States.

Kosei has achieved numerous successes across national competitions and youth tournaments and has also delivered exceptional individual performances, including eleven perfect 300 games, a rare achievement in the sport and the bowling equivalent of a golf hole-in-one.

In 2025, Kosei represented New Zealand at the IBF Open Men World Championships in Hong Kong, finishing 37th out of 104 competitors, an impressive result competing against elite international bowlers.

With continued success domestically and internationally, Kosei is building toward his long-term ambition of competing professionally on the USA Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour, one of the highest levels of the sport worldwide.
